CR stands for ‘Cosmic Reincarnation/s.’The belief system that the CR community has can be explained pretty simply, while it can seem a little complex.The two things you need to understand in order to get a grasp on what we believe are:The Multiverse TheoryAndReincarnation

THE MULTIVERSE

There is a lot of scientific research into the Multiverse theory, but the version of it explained today will be the branch that explores the concept of infinite universes.The Multiverse is a hypothetical group of universes, but we are talking about the multiverse on an infinite scale, which means that for every single thing you do, everything you think of, there is a universe in which that is a reality.A good example of this is what we consider a 'fictional' universe. Because of the infinite scale of universes, under the belief that this theory exists, that universe, and infinite others like it, have existed, currently do exist, and will exist.
Let's take a popular piece of media for example, pokemon. Under this belief, there are infinite universes in which pokemon exists. There are universes that follow exactly the plot of the show or games, theres ones where Ash Ketchum is a girl, where he has a squirtle instead of pikachu, one where pikachu is a human, and it just keeps going.

REINCARNATION

Reincarnation as a spiritual belief
is one that is prevalent in hundreds of cultures and religions around the globe, and has been around for thousands of years.The oxford dictionary defines Reincarnation as: the rebirth of a soul in a new body.

CR

Combining these two beliefs is when you end up with CR, Cosmic Reincarnation/s.A cosmic reincarnation is the same idea of normal reincarnation, except this is a past life from a different universe.In simple terms, CR is the belief that the soul knows not the boundaries of one single universe. The soul can live in a body in one universe, and when that body dies, that energy can pass on to another body in a completely different universe.EXAMPLE:
A soul incarnates into a universe that we consider fictional, ex. THE MARVEL UNIVERSE.
They live out that life there, and then reincarnate into this universe after, but just like with same-universe past lives, those memories can still be unlocked, processed, and integrated.So in one life, for example, a soul could be Tony Stark, AKA Iron man, and when he dies, his soul then continues on to be Woody from Toy story, or Famous superstar Dwayne the Rock Johnson, or... A dog, or anything really, because infinity is much more complex than we can even give it credit for.Souls and Universes are beyond our comprehension, but these two ideas can and do coexist across various spiritual practices and experiences.Cosmic Reincarnation describes the phenomena of experiencing a past life that is not from the same universe or timeline we currently inhabit, though it is mostly used as a framework for describing a specific reincarnation focused belief, it can also be used to describe 'ordinary' same-universe past lives as well if one so pleases.

ORIGINS

Where does CR Come From & Why was It Created?

The idea itself is actually a belief that branches off from the Otherkin and Fictionkin communities. I, the author of this site, started my spiritual journey in those communities, and so did many other people who use CR terms. It would be unfair to not pay homage to the communities who started these ideas and spread awareness for the identities that many people have.

The reason I created the CR community, was so that we can distance ourselves from the kin community. There’s no malice, only a hope for specification on our spiritual beliefs. Otherkin was traced back only to a certain point, back in the 70s with people who identified as tolkien elves. Soon after in the mid 90s, blogs for elvenkin and fantasykin started being created, and the community just grew and grew! Identity and the belief in other worlds is no new theory, spanning years and years from various philosophers and primarily creatives, who describe the process of creating as discovering more than crafting something alone.Kinterms vary widely, and people experience identity and their connections to people, characters, animals, and other creatures in various interconnected ways, which is a beautiful part of self expression that has existed LONG before these terms came to be, across many belief systems and cultures throughout time.People are going to experience otherkinnity in their own ways, but that meant for those with my specific experience, we needed a stronger definition, and a stronger source, because not everyone with a similar experience held the same theories, beliefs, and practices that the experience of 'Cosmic Reincarnation' specifically required. Treating a piece of your identity as a spiritual past life discovery requires a different path than exploring personal identity shifts for self expression, and they're both beautiful but distinct experiences.

Kin is a very broad term. It’s gone through years and years of changing, and the coagulated definition that has arisen throughout decades online has morphed into this broad form:Kinning means to identify as anything that isn't you in this current life or body. Be it non-human, or fictional being/character.Some sub-definitions and expressions of kinning that I've observed are:For fun, similar to roleplayingA coping mechanism of identifying as a characterA character you heavily relate toA character you feel a connection
or attachment to, spiritually (such as past lives or other modes of connection) or psychologically

Kin communities can be an excellent source of support and comradery for people who share similar experiences, with some being more specific to certain types of kinning and others being more broad. However, this becomes tricky when you share a term with many definitions.When people gather in a shared space dedicated to a shared experience, but each have a different idea of what that experience means, is, or presents for them, there leaves a lot of room for confusion, discourse, and disorientation.There are many reasons to want to have a degree of separation, especially between the psychological kin community and the spiritual kin community. While psychological and spiritual experiences go hand in hand, the support people are looking for changes depending on the grouping. For example, if someone is expressing a distressing past life memory, trying to integrate past life trauma and heal from it, and opening themselves up to finding others that they may share past lives with, this deeply personal experience would very well clash with someone who views their connection to a character or animal as a fun hobby or mode of self expression. Neither are invalid, but in truth: These experiences are not the same, and we cannot treat them as such.Some may consider this an attempt at gatekeeping- but in truth, this is to prevent that very thing. There is no use in gatekeeping a term that's grown so huge at this point, it's a fruitless endeavor, and there is a beauty found in the development of a term throughout time. Kin is now a polyseme, it's a word that has multiple definitions. What needed to occur was simply a branching off point with a clear source, so that those with the experience of cosmic reincarnation could find solace in community with others who understood exactly what they were going through without the lexical ambiguity and inter-community confusion that stems from it.And my final points of course are these:1. Those who choose to identify as something will not share the same experience as people who experience something involuntarily2. Subjects of the spiritual & soul history require a different level of respect, care, and vulnerability than other means of self expression.

Due to the issues and infighting, I wanted to get specific, I wanted a group of people who understood and were interested in specifically what myself and others I knew were experiencing.I talked to a good handful of my other friends in the community about this, and we came to an agreement that it might be time for some of us to branch off from the larger kin community and start our own, with a specific definition as to what it is.I always wanted stronger sources that I could show people, to say “No, please don’t disrespect us, this term wasn’t intended to be used this way,” in an effort to be taken seriously, but in the end, I never had access to such a source. The kin community grew so rapidly online, and with trolls and unreliable blogs and websites, so much has been lost to time.I was looking for something I could’ve made myself, a source that didn’t exist yet. I quickly realized that I could create the specification myself.So here it is, CR. Now it has a source, this website. The terms I’m making now have a place you can trace them back to, which is myself. Me and my community have made these terms with very strict definitions as to what they are, that way they won’t be used wrong, and there won’t be any confusion as to what they mean, because they only have one definition, which is omniversal reincarnation.Of course there is always room for philosophy, discovery, and growth, but the goal is to have a more respected space to share our journeys.So, tl;drWhile CR is a belief that derived from a branch in the otherkin community, it’s very specific and only to be used in one way! Using it in a way it wasn't meant for and changing this definition would be considered very disrespectful, as this is only to be used to describe a specific, involuntary, and uncontrollable spiritual experience.

TERMINOLOGY

(some people that started out or are in kin communities may recognize a few of these, as they mean the same things!)

Cosmic Reincarnation / CR
The spiritual belief that you have past lives that may not be from this universe, usually accompanied with memories and a unique spiritual connection and experience.Timeline / Canon
Definition: Timeline and Canon are synonyms, used to specify the specific universe that you lived a past life in.Used in a sentence:
“In my ‘Alice’ Timeline/Canon, I had long black hair and I always wore a blue bracelet,”“I’m looking for people from my Icarus canon, please message me if you have any CRs from Greek Mythology or similar timelines,”Source
Definition: The piece of usually fictional media, that you have CR from. So for example, if someone has a CR of Captain America, their ‘Source’ would be marvel. Some people look for Sourcemates, which is just people who have shared other lives from similar universes. SourceMates are not always canonmates.Used in a sentence:
“Yeah, in source, I did that, but in my timeline I didn’t!”“In source Tony died, but in my canon, I lived,”“Sometimes watching source is so weird, because I expect stuff that happened in my timeline to happen, but it never does!"**Canonmate / atita amica (AA) **
Definition: synonyms, Canonmates, or AA’s, are people that you knew in a past life. Many people hold the hope that people they knew in their past lives have past onto this one along with them, especially if they believe those people are their soul family. People may put out calls online known as Canoncalls, TimelineCalls, AACalls, with some of their memories, in order to find people that they miss from their past lives.Atita Amica (AA) is a term I made myself, it means Past Friends. Atita is Past in Sanskrit, and Amica is Friend in latin, I thought it was kind of ironic to use two dead languages to make a term for dead people.Used in a sentence:“Hello, I have a CR as Steven from Steven Universe, and I’m looking for Canonmates/AA’s!”CR Shift
(Not to be confused with reality shifting, which while interesting, is a different subject!)Definition: In the kin community this was referred to as a 'Kin Shift,' A CR shift is a temporary period of time in which you feel very connected to one of your past lives. Usually this is caused by interacting with your source, or experiencing something that reminds you of the life you lived. In CR shifts you may talk like how you used to, act how you used to, and overall just be a lot more like your old self! It’s also a lot easier to get memories from a specific past life if you’re in that shift. Sometimes there are permashifts, which basically means you're always in that shift, all the time. Some people feel like they’re always in every shift, but depending on the day, some are stronger, it’s up to personal experience usually.Examples/Used In sentences
“Whenever I’m in a Thor shift, my accent comes back full throttle! I sometimes forget how loud I can be”“When I shift Woody from toy story I always walk like a cowboy, it’s so funny,”“I’m in a Dragon OC shift, and it’s almost like I can still feel my wings, I keep getting memories of flying through the sky whenever I close my eyes,”“Sometimes, when I go into a Blue Diamond shift, I forget how different things are, I miss homeworld a lot in this shift,”“Most days I’m in a Holly shift, but today, I’m in a Prince Charming shift, I feel like it’s going to last a while, which is nice, because I haven't shifted him in a few weeks,”CR listDefinition: a list of someones Cosmic Reincarnations, all of their past lives, put into a list.Example:"I have more CRs than just Tony, do you want a document with my full CR list?"

How To Get Involved

Currently, we don't have a solid meeting place. There used to be a discord server that has been down due to inactivity, but coming soon I hope to do a relaunch if there is enough interest. If you'd be interested in modding, helping to set up, or just being available to help get the community active again, please reach out to me via email.
